Homemade Veggie Pizza Recipe
Ingredients:
For the Pizza Dough:
- 2 1/4 teaspoons (1 packet) active dry yeast
- 1 1/2 cups warm water (about 110°F)
- 3 1/2 to 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 teaspoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
For the Pizza Sauce:
- 1 cup canned tomato sauce
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
the Toppings:
- 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese (or vegan cheese for a dairy-free version)
- 1 small bell pepper, thinly sliced (any color)
- 1/2 red onion, thinly sliced
- 1/2 cup sliced black olives
- 1/2 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
- 1/2 cup sliced mushrooms
- 1/4 cup fresh spinach leaves
- 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves (for garnish)
- Red pepper flakes (optional, for extra spice)
Instructions:
1. Prepare the Dough:
- In a large bowl, dissolve the yeast and sugar in warm water. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
- Add olive oil, salt, and 3 1/2 cups of flour. Mix until the dough comes together.
- Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5–7 minutes, adding more flour as needed until it’s smooth and elastic. Mix until the dough comes together.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for 1–1 1/2 hours, or until it doubles in size.
2. Prepare the Sauce:
- In a small bowl, mix the tomato sauce, oregano, basil, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Set aside.
3. Preheat the Oven:
- Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). If using a pizza stone, place it in the oven to heat as well.
4. Roll Out the Dough:
- Punch down the dough, then divide it into two equal parts if you’re making two smaller pizzas.
- Roll out the dough on a floured surface into your desired thickness.
5. Assemble the Pizza:
- Place the rolled-out dough on a pizza pan or preheated pizza stone.
- Spread a thin layer of sauce over the dough.
- Sprinkle with shredded mozzarella cheese.
- Arrange bell peppers, onions, olives, cherry tomatoes, mushrooms, and spinach evenly over the cheese.
6. Bake:
- Bake for 12–15 minutes or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly and melted.
7. Garnish and Serve:
- Remove from the oven, garnish with fresh basil leaves, and sprinkle red pepper flakes if desired.
- Slice and enjoy!
Tips:
- Add more veggies if you like—zucchini, artichokes, or roasted garlic make great additions!
- For a crispier crust, bake at a higher temperature (around 500°F) for a shorter time.
