Homemade Veggie Pizza Recipe

Ingredients:

For the Pizza Dough:

  • 2 1/4 teaspoons (1 packet) active dry yeast
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water (about 110°F)
  • 3 1/2 to 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt

For the Pizza Sauce:

  • 1 cup canned tomato sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste

the Toppings:

  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese (or vegan cheese for a dairy-free version)
  • 1 small bell pepper, thinly sliced (any color)
  • 1/2 red onion, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup sliced black olives
  • 1/2 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
  • 1/2 cup sliced mushrooms
  • 1/4 cup fresh spinach leaves
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves (for garnish)
  • Red pepper flakes (optional, for extra spice)

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Dough:

  • In a large bowl, dissolve the yeast and sugar in warm water. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
  • Add olive oil, salt, and 3 1/2 cups of flour. Mix until the dough comes together.
  • Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5–7 minutes, adding more flour as needed until it’s smooth and elastic. Mix until the dough comes together.
  • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for 1–1 1/2 hours, or until it doubles in size.

2. Prepare the Sauce:

  • In a small bowl, mix the tomato sauce, oregano, basil, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Set aside.

3. Preheat the Oven:

  • Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). If using a pizza stone, place it in the oven to heat as well.

4. Roll Out the Dough:

  • Punch down the dough, then divide it into two equal parts if you’re making two smaller pizzas.
  • Roll out the dough on a floured surface into your desired thickness.

5. Assemble the Pizza:

  • Place the rolled-out dough on a pizza pan or preheated pizza stone.
  • Spread a thin layer of sauce over the dough.
  • Sprinkle with shredded mozzarella cheese.
  • Arrange bell peppers, onions, olives, cherry tomatoes, mushrooms, and spinach evenly over the cheese.

6. Bake:

  • Bake for 12–15 minutes or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly and melted.

7. Garnish and Serve:

  • Remove from the oven, garnish with fresh basil leaves, and sprinkle red pepper flakes if desired.
  • Slice and enjoy!

Tips:

  • Add more veggies if you like—zucchini, artichokes, or roasted garlic make great additions!
  • For a crispier crust, bake at a higher temperature (around 500°F) for a shorter time.
